Leaks have claimed for some time now that Certain Affinity is working on a battle royale experience for Halo Infinite, and official developments have solely served to additional cement these leaks. The studio formally introduced in April 2022 that it had partnered with 343 Industries and was engaged on “further evolving Halo Infinite in some new and exciting ways”, and later said that it was working on “something big and new for the franchise”.
However, it appears the battle royale challenge – which is reportedly codenamed Tatanka – has met a untimely finish. XboxPeriod co-founder Nick Baker mentioned throughout a current episode of the XboxPeriod Podcast that he had heard Tatanka had been cancelled, which, curiously sufficient, is one thing that Xbox insider colteastwood has heard from separate sources as nicely.
In January final 12 months, it was reported that although improvement on Tatanka had began as a battle royale expertise, the challenge had evolved in different directions since then, and that it was being constructed on Unreal Engine 5. Whether that reformed challenge has been cancelled or if it has merely morphed and became one thing utterly completely different stays unclear.
Of course, it’s value protecting in thoughts that that is an unverified hearsay a few recreation that hadn’t but been formally introduced, so take this with a grain of salt for now. Stay tuned for extra updates.
